Libby/Hoopla/Kanopy Changes - June 2025
Answer
To ensure the Library can continue providing a wide variety of high-quality digital content while maintaining fiscal responsibility, on June 1, 2025, we will adjust the limits for digital checkouts and holds. These updates reflect the increasing popularity and rising costs of digital media and will help us manage resources wisely while continuing to meet demand.
If the new limits are too low for your household, please consider signing up other eligible members in your household for their own Library card.
Libby
Beginning June 1, 2025, the Libby hold limit will be 20 items, and the checkout limit will be 10 items. On that date, any patrons with more than the limit will not have their items removed. Instead, they will be unable to check out more items or put more items on hold until they fall below those limits.
If you are worried that you will lose your “To Be Read” list with the reduction of how many items can be placed on hold, don’t forget to utilize the tags. Tags are a great way to keep track of titles you want to read later instead of placing a hold. Read more about tags and how to use them here.
As before, eMagazines do not count towards your limit in Libby.
Hoopla
The Hoopla checkout limit will change from ten items to six. The Library recognizes that changing limits can be difficult and frustrating, but based on current usage, we feel these changes will only impact a small number of customers. For example, in April 2025, the average Hoopla user checked out 3.79 items, well below the current monthly limit of 10 items.
Kanopy
The monthly ticket allotment in Kanopy will change from 30 to 25 tickets per month.
